Former Legend Biotech VP Pan Qi Joins Shuimu Molecular as Chief Biomedical Scientist

It has been exclusively learned that Pan Qi, the former R&D Vice President of Legend Biotech, has joined "Shuimu Molecular," an AI-driven biomedical company incubated by Tsinghua University's Institute for Intelligent Industry (AIR). Pan Qi will assume the role of Chief Biomedical Scientist, with comprehensive responsibility for the company's biomedical and ChatDD research strategy, R&D system construction, advancement of AI drug pipelines, and the layout of global collaborations.

Pan Qi is a seasoned R&D and management expert in the international biomedical field, possessing over twenty years of end-to-end experience spanning target discovery, drug development, clinical translation, and strategic partnerships. He has also accumulated substantial expertise in artificial intelligence applied to drug R&D, having completed postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Nobel laureate Professor Gary Ruvkun and holds multiple international patents related to biotherapeutics and multispecific antibodies.

According to informed sources, prior to joining Shuimu Molecular, Pan Qi most recently served as Senior Vice President of Cancer Biology at Pathos, a prominent US-based AI oncology biotechnology company. Before that, he held the position of R&D Vice President at the publicly listed company Legend Biotech, where he built the CAR-T and TCR-T cell therapy R&D pipelines from the ground up. Notably, the DLL3 CAR-T project he spearheaded ultimately led to a global licensing collaboration between Legend Biotech and Novartis, which included an upfront payment of $100 million.

Shuimu Molecular is an AI large model plus biomedical startup affiliated with Tsinghua University, incubated by the Institute for Intelligent Industry (AIR) founded by Zhang Yaqin. The company's Chief Scientist is Professor Guo Qiang of Tsinghua University and AIR's principal investigator, Professor Nie Zaiqing. Between 2017 and 2020, Professor Nie Zaiqing joined Alibaba, serving as the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Lab in Beijing and the Chief Scientist for Alibaba's Tmall Genie.
