Weibo Reports Q1 Financial Results with AI-Driven Content and Advertising as Key Growth Drivers

Deep News05-28

On May 28, Weibo released its financial report for the first quarter of 2026. The company's total revenue for the quarter reached $421.3 million, approximately RMB 29.01 billion, representing a 6% year-over-year increase. Advertising revenue amounted to $369.8 million, around RMB 25.44 billion, up 9% compared to the same period last year.

In terms of business segments, advertising and marketing revenue performed notably well this quarter. The company's report indicates that the 9% growth in advertising and marketing revenue was primarily driven by favorable foreign exchange effects on reported figures and increased advertising demand from sectors such as internet services, automotive, and local services. Regarding commercial growth, the company stated it has systematically enhanced advertising conversion effectiveness by integrating AI capabilities.

Furthermore, with the continuous iteration of AI technology and applications, AI-related content has become a significant contributor to the platform's content ecosystem. In May, the number of professional AI bloggers, daily AI trending topics, and discussions on AI-related content all increased by over 30% compared to January. AI technological advancements are consistently stimulating content creation and user engagement on the platform, which is expected to further foster a positive cycle between content ecosystem growth and commercial expansion.

Value-added services revenue, however, declined. Financial data shows that value-added services revenue for the quarter was $51.6 million, down 11% from $57.7 million in the same period last year, mainly due to reduced contributions from game-related business.

For 2026, Weibo plans to continue focusing on its three core businesses—trending topics, social networking, and search—while prioritizing the enhancement of content ecosystem health and core competitiveness. Regarding annual strategy, the company intends to further leverage AI agent capabilities to conduct product validation in key scenarios such as search landing pages and comment sections, centered around people search and trending search, aiming to improve user search experience and efficiency.
