Today marks the 15th birthday of WeChat. On January 21, 2011, the application was officially launched.

The official WeChat account "微信派" shared the interface of the Android 1.0 version, including the classic Earth startup screen.

It is understood that WeChat's initial release was only for the iOS system. The first Android version was released three days later.

In the WeChat 1.0 beta version, the company emphasized that, to protect user privacy, it would not automatically scan and upload users' address books. It also did not reveal whether a message had been read, aiming to reduce the pressure of receiving messages.

Leveraging the user base from QQ, WeChat quickly gained popularity after its launch. By the end of April 2011, registered users had surpassed 4 million.

On May 10 of the same year, WeChat version 2.0 was released, introducing the Talkbox-style voice walkie-talkie feature. By August, with the addition of the "People Nearby" social feature, its user base had grown to 15 million.

On October 1, WeChat version 3.0 was launched, adding the "Shake" and "Message in a Bottle" functions. The number of users exceeded 50 million and surpassed 100 million just three months later.

According to Tencent's Q1 2025 financial report, the combined monthly active users of WeChat and WeChat had reached 1.402 billion.
