Duke University Opens Women's Scholars Program to Men in Response to Trump's DEI Termination Mandate

Deep News11-14

Duke University will expand access to its previously women-exclusive scholars program by allowing male applicants, aligning with former President Trump's directive to terminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies.

The Baldwin Scholars Program, established in 2004, will now accept applications from all undergraduate students, according to reports from the university's student newspaper, *The Chronicle*.

This change comes as the Trump administration continues its nationwide crackdown on DEI-related initiatives in higher education. Recently, the administration sent letters to several top universities proposing draft agreements that include limiting international student enrollment, banning race or gender considerations in hiring, freezing tuition for five years, and reinstating standardized testing in admissions in exchange for prioritized federal funding access.

In July, Trump administration officials announced an investigation into Duke University and the *Duke Law Journal*, alleging discrimination in selecting journal members based on "race, color, and/or national origin."
