Recently, Dongfang Electric Corporation's subsidiary, Dongfang International, signed the contract for the Bileća Energy Storage Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking the official launch of the country's first large-scale energy storage initiative. This project represents another practical achievement in cooperation, building upon Dongfang Electric's deep involvement in Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy infrastructure construction since 2010 and the continuous advancement of projects in hydropower, photovoltaics, and waste-to-energy, which will further assist in the transformation and upgrading of the nation's energy structure.
As the first large-scale, generation-side energy storage project currently being developed within Bosnia and Herzegovina, it will be designed, supplied, and commissioned by Dongfang International. The project will utilize industry-leading liquid cooling temperature control technology and flexible, balanced charging and discharging techniques to establish a full-lifecycle closed-loop management mechanism of "self-diagnosis of equipment, self-warning of anomalies, and self-optimization of strategies," providing users with a safe and highly efficient energy storage solution.
Upon completion, the project will become critical infrastructure for Bosnia and Herzegovina to enhance the regulation capability of its power system, ensure a stable electricity supply, and promote the large-scale integration of renewable energy, providing robust support for the secure and stable operation of the local new-type power system. The project will also be connected to the European grid, offering effective support for frequency stability, power balance, and operational security under conditions of high penetration of distributed renewable energy.
In the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy supply security and green transition, Dongfang Electric has consistently adhered to high-quality project execution to ensure successful implementation, having carried out a series of representative engineering projects. In August 2016, the EPC project for the Stanari Power Plant received its handover certificate, marking a significant breakthrough for Chinese large-scale power plant equipment entering the European market and for Chinese engineering contractors in Europe.
In October 2022, the EPC contract for the Bileća Photovoltaic Project was signed; this project is the largest-capacity centralized PV project completed and grid-connected in Bosnia and Herzegovina to date, capable of supplying approximately 100 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to the locality annually. On January 9, 2025, all units of the Ulog Hydropower Plant were connected to the grid. In November 2025, the cogeneration project for the Zvornik aluminum plant became effective, utilizing turbine generator units "Made by Dongfang" that meet EU emission standards.
Looking ahead, Dongfang Electric will fully leverage its integrated advantages across the new energy industry chain and its extensive experience in overseas project construction to advance project execution with high quality and standards, contributing new "Dongfang" wisdom and "Dongfang" solutions to Bosnia and Herzegovina's efforts in addressing climate change and promoting its energy transition.
