Middle Eastern Crude Oil Shipment Docks at Zhanjiang Port in Guangdong

Deep News17:11

A cargo vessel carrying 270,000 metric tons of crude oil from the Middle East has arrived at Zhanjiang Port in Guangdong Province. The ship, named Kaiyuan, departed from Saudi Arabia and completed its voyage in approximately 20 days before safely docking at the Zhongke Refining and Chemical Terminal on Donghai Island in Zhanjiang on the morning of April 9. The shipment is expected to ensure stable production for local refining enterprises and strengthen regional energy security.

According to information provided by maritime authorities, the Kaiyuan measures 330 meters in length and 60 meters in width, with a gross tonnage of 157,039 and a deadweight tonnage of 297,101. After departing from the Middle East, the vessel traveled for about 20 days before reaching Zhanjiang. Approximately 135,000 tons of the crude oil will be unloaded at the Zhongke Refining and Chemical Terminal, while the remainder will be discharged at the Zhanjiang Petrochemical Terminal.

Zhongke Refining and Chemical, a large-scale integrated refining and petrochemical project, relies heavily on imported crude oil, with around 90% of its supply originating from the Middle East. Under normal circumstances, the Donghai Island facility imports roughly 750,000 tons of crude oil per month from the Middle East. Between February 28, when tensions escalated involving the U.S., Iran, and Israel, and the recent docking, the plant had imported about 400,000 tons of crude oil from the region. The timely arrival of this shipment will help alleviate raw material supply pressures and support stable operational continuity.
