The Cyberspace Administration of China has issued an implementation plan for deepening technological innovation and integrated application of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) spanning the years 2026 to 2030.
The plan outlines specific targets for 2027, aiming for comprehensive improvement in end-to-end IPv6 connectivity and significant phased achievements in technological innovation and application integration. The goal is to reach 900 million active IPv6 users and for IPv6 traffic to account for 38% of total network traffic.
By 2030, the objective is to achieve deep and extensive integration of IPv6 across all sectors of the economy and society. This will involve building an advanced, open, innovative, self-driven, secure, and reliable IPv6 industrial ecosystem. Targets for this phase include 950 million active IPv6 users and for IPv6 traffic to constitute 42% of total network traffic.
The plan also mandates that new networks will default to providing IPv6 addresses, accelerating the transition towards IPv6-only (single-stack) networks. This initiative aims to establish a network service and application system dominated by IPv6.
