A new WeChat public account, named "DeepSeek Harness Team," was registered recently. The account is verified under Beijing DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Basic Technology Research Co., Ltd., with its IP location in Beijing's Haidian District. As of now, no content has been published on this platform.
This marks the first time DeepSeek has established a dedicated official communication channel for its Harness business line, which is widely interpreted by industry observers as a strong signal that the Harness product is nearing its release. Harness is an engineering system that enables large language models to actually "run," handling tool invocation, task planning, and execution scheduling—key capabilities essential for the development of intelligent agents.
In May of this year, DeepSeek internally formed a core Harness team, led by Cui Tianyi, with initial recruitment for three types of positions: Harness researchers, engineers, and product managers. All roles are based in Beijing.
According to previously leaked internal investor meeting content from DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng, the company's approach to agents is that the most reasonable strategy is to "fully focus on building general-purpose agents," with lower priority assigned to vertical agents. This suggests that the internally formed Harness team may prioritize development around the general-purpose agent direction from the outset.
Is a DeepSeek agent on the horizon? As of the time of writing, DeepSeek has not responded to inquiries from the media. From the perspective of industry insiders, the Harness team represents a critical step forward for DeepSeek on the agent ladder. By operating independently from the main AGI line, which aims to push the limits of intelligence, the Harness team signifies that DeepSeek is actively working to transform its model capabilities into tangible, "ready-to-work" general-purpose agent products.
