At the 2026 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC), held from September 22-24 in Haikou, Hainan, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Chief Technology Officer Eiichi Akashi addressed attendees, highlighting China's pivotal role in the company's global vision. He emphasized that China is not only a leading market for Nissan but also essential for realizing its worldwide strategic goals.
Akashi outlined three core strategic pillars tailored for the Chinese market: brand enhancement, product innovation, and international expansion. On the brand front, Nissan is introducing a fresh value proposition designed to engage younger consumers with exhilarating and forward-thinking mobility experiences. For products, the company is accelerating its new energy vehicle lineup at "China speed" to align closely with local consumer demands.
The third pillar, export strategy, involves leveraging vehicles developed and engineered in China for global distribution, utilizing existing networks to tap into additional overseas markets. Akashi noted that China serves as the foundational market for Nissan's electrification push, backed by over two decades of solid industrial development. He confirmed that Nissan will continue to introduce a diverse range of new energy offerings tailored to China's next generation of buyers.
Furthermore, Akashi underscored a strategic shift in Nissan's approach, moving from "in China, for China" to "in China, for the world." By capitalizing on China's advanced industrial ecosystem, Nissan aims to deliver electrification technologies refined locally to customers across the globe.
