A wave of joy and warmth has been sweeping through the campus of Wengjiang Town Central Primary School in Pingjiang County in recent days. The "Beauty in the Fields" 2026 Rural Children's Aesthetic Literacy Enhancement Public Welfare Project, organized by the Pingjiang County Education Foundation, recently concluded a 15-day summer art course with a grand graduation ceremony. Officials from the county education foundation, school leaders, all volunteer teachers, students, and parent representatives gathered to witness this moving and proud moment.
At 9:00 AM, the ceremony kicked off with an exhibition of the children's artistic achievements. Colorful paintings and creative handicrafts were neatly displayed in the school's corridors and classrooms, showcasing the full results of the 15-day course. The children used brushes to depict the fields and skilled hands to inherit intangible cultural heritage, turning every lesson's inspiration into tangible works. Parents wandered through the exhibits, their eyes lingering on each piece. Many bent down to examine their children's paintings, unable to hide their smiles and pride. "I never expected my child could make something so beautiful!" one parent exclaimed repeatedly while standing before the "Colorful Intangible Heritage Paper Umbrellas" display, admiring the naturally flowing lacquer textures on the umbrellas. From intangible heritage lacquer fans to flowing paper umbrellas, from painted vases of flowers to fish playing among lotus leaves, each piece carried the children's growth and transformation over the past 15 days.
During the ceremony, school leaders and volunteer teachers presented the children with graduation certificates and honorable awards. A representative of the Pingjiang County Education Foundation stated that the "Beauty in the Fields" project, by exploring local rural aesthetic culture and offering specialized art courses, enables rural children to paint the green mountains and clear waters they see and write about their cultural roots. Principal Jiang Youliang of Wengjiang Town Central Primary School had noted at the project's launch that the children of Wengjiang Town, growing up amidst the fields with soil under their feet, green mountains in their sight, and hometown sentiment in their hearts, possess the most vivid aesthetic material, which has successfully blossomed into beautiful flowers in their hands.
From the shores of the Xinqiang River to the foot of the Mufu Mountains, "Beauty in the Fields" uses art as a vessel to carry rural children toward a broader horizon.
