Jiangxi's First Multimodal Transport Rail Link for Ports Achieves Key Milestone

Deep News04-07

On April 7, the Mojialing Tunnel, part of the Jiujiang Hongguang Port Area Railway Dedicated Line in Pengze County, Jiangxi Province, was successfully completed. This marks a significant advancement in the project, laying a solid foundation for subsequent track laying and the full line's operational launch. Construction of the dedicated railway line officially commenced in December 2024 and is progressing steadily, with an expected completion date of August 2027. The recently completed Mojialing Tunnel stretches 295 meters and was a critical and challenging component of the entire project. According to the project manager, the tunnel runs entirely through Grade V surrounding rock, with shallow burial sections accounting for over half of its length. The rock mass is fractured with poor self-stability, and the narrow, elongated workface presented substantial construction difficulties. During construction, the project team implemented comprehensive forecasting measures combining geological surveys, advance drilling, and geophysical prospecting. They utilized ground-penetrating radar and extended blast holes for precise detection of the tunnel face, allowing them to identify fault fracture zones and water-rich areas in advance, thereby ensuring construction safety and quality. The Jiujiang Hongguang Port Area Railway Dedicated Line is located at the border of Hukou County and Pengze County. It branches off from the Liusi Station on the Tongling-Jiujiang Railway, with a main line approximately 6.9 kilometers long. The line connects southwest to the Beijing-Kowloon Railway and extends northeast into Anhui Province, linking with railway networks such as the Wuhu-Tongling Line and the Nanjing-Wuhu Line. As Jiangxi's first comprehensive port-dedicated railway, the project has an initial designed annual shipment volume of 6.45 million tons and an arrival volume of 6 million tons, with long-term plans to increase these figures to 12.05 million tons and 9.1 million tons, respectively. It is the first railway in Jiangxi capable of handling the arrival and departure of bulk cargo, as well as the loading, unloading, and transshipment of containers. Following the tunnel's completion, the project will move into the phases of lining installation, track laying, and construction of ancillary facilities. Once operational, the line will facilitate the integrated operation of Jiujiang Port's Chengxi and Hongguang major container terminals. This will further streamline the transport corridor for Jiangxi goods through Jiujiang, playing a positive role in enhancing Jiangxi's multimodal transport collection and distribution system, boosting the influence of Jiujiang Port and other ports within the province, reducing overall social logistics costs, and promoting high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
