Tibet has announced a major clean energy target as part of its new five-year development blueprint.
The region aims to have approximately 60 gigawatts of installed power capacity by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, with an additional 120 GW under construction.
This goal is central to a modern industrial system dubbed "4+4+X," with clean energy leading the list of four pillar industries.
Currently, clean energy sources account for about 97% of Tibet's installed power capacity and nearly 100% of its electricity generation.
Green power from the region is already being transmitted over 1,900 kilometers to Hubei province via ultra-high-voltage direct current lines in just six milliseconds.
Development is accelerating on integrated hydropower, wind, and solar bases in areas like the upper reaches of the Jinsha and Lancang rivers.
The plan also focuses on strengthening the clean energy supply chain and promoting its integration with sectors like mining and transportation.
By 2030, Tibet aims to establish a model new energy system on the plateau and become a key pillar of the national "West-to-East Electricity Transmission" strategy.
Alongside energy, the plan emphasizes technological improvements for livelihoods, including continued development of specialized appliances for high-altitude living.
It also outlines significant investments in vocational training, education—including AI applications—and healthcare, with a target to increase average life expectancy to 74.7 years.
