ChatGPT Tops Apple's Most Downloaded Apps of 2025

Deep News12-11

OpenAI's ChatGPT emerged as the most downloaded free app in Apple's U.S. market in 2025, surpassing traditional favorites like social media and search tools.

Apple's annual list of top apps and games, released on Wednesday, revealed ChatGPT as the leading free iPhone app in the U.S., while Google's Gemini ranked tenth.

This marks ChatGPT's first time topping the chart, having placed fourth in 2024 when shopping app Temu held the top spot.

ChatGPT's dominance over social networks and essential tools like Google Maps highlights AI's growing integration into American users' daily lives.

Google's lower ranking compared to ChatGPT suggests a shift among users toward AI-powered chat tools for answers, signaling OpenAI's potential to disrupt Google's stronghold on mobile search.

Earlier signs pointed to ChatGPT's rise, as it became the world's most downloaded app in March, outpacing heavyweights like TikTok and Instagram.

The app's rapid climb reflects accelerating user growth. Despite its strong debut on iPhones in May 2023, it missed the top ten that year. By 2024, it rose to fourth place before claiming the top spot in 2025.

On iPads, YouTube led free apps, with ChatGPT ranking second, followed by Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video—demonstrating ChatGPT's appeal across both smartphones and tablets.
