On June 24th, the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference.
A reporter asked that, just as the mainland is actively working to expand sales channels for agricultural and fishery products like pineapple sugar apples from certain counties and cities in Taiwan, a spokesperson for Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, Liang Wenjie, recently stated, "Taiwanese people hardly eat pineapple sugar apples; it can be said to be an agricultural product completely dependent on the mainland's whims." This remark has caused an uproar in public opinion on the island, with many viewing it as pure political manipulation that disregards the livelihoods of Taiwanese farmers. What is your comment on this?
Spokesperson Zhang Han responded by stating that the DPP authorities have consistently ignored public grievances, disregarded people's livelihoods, and harmed public interests. They not only show no concern for, pay no attention to, and offer no solutions to the livelihood issues of grassroots farmers and fishermen on the island, but also mock, belittle, and disparage the labor achievements of those in agriculture and fisheries, while attacking, slandering, and smearing the goodwill and sincerity of the mainland.
Public opinion naturally discerns what is just, and their reckless actions have already stirred public resentment on the island. If the DPP authorities do not cease their political manipulation and stop obstructing and restricting cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, they will inevitably face an even greater backlash from public sentiment.
