TVB 2025 ESG Report: Energy Consumption -4.93%, GHG Emissions -4.83%, HK$200 Million Raised for Community Causes

Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) has released its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance Report, outlining material progress toward the broadcaster’s 2026 sustainability goals while maintaining robust community engagement and workforce initiatives.

Environmental Performance • Energy Use: Total energy consumption fell 4.93 % year on year to 36.14 million kWh, driven mainly by lower diesel and petrol usage (-13.11 %) and a 4.65 % reduction in electricity demand to 35.04 million kWh. Renewable energy generated from 2,625 rooftop photovoltaic panels rose 14.45 % to 1.55 million kWh, lifting green power to 4.41 % of total electricity consumed and surpassing the company’s 3 %-by-2025 target. • Emissions: Aggregate Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions dropped 4.83 % to 13,341.57 tonnes CO₂e, equal to 0.66 tonnes per production hour. Since the 2019 baseline, TVB has now cut these emissions 40.47 %, meeting its 40 % reduction goal a year ahead of schedule. • Waste & Water: Non-hazardous waste sent to landfill fell 26.14 % to 1,374.10 tonnes; hazardous waste declined 39.98 % to 6.50 tonnes. Water consumption was stable at 87,356 m³ (+0.20 %).

Workforce & Safety • Headcount stood at 3,044 (90.6 % in Hong Kong). Employee turnover was 20.4 %. • Occupational Safety: No work-related fatalities were recorded. Lost-day cases decreased 12.5 % to 1,351 days; reported injuries fell to 28 (-20 %). • Talent Development: 3,801 training hours were delivered, averaging 3.66 hours per employee. Long-service awards honoured 139 staff, while six employees received Outstanding Employee Awards.

Governance & Supply Chain • Supplier Base: 82.5 % of suppliers are Hong Kong-based. All tenders incorporate a Supplier Code of Conduct covering labour, environmental and anti-corruption standards. No ESG-related supplier breaches were reported. • Regulatory Compliance: Three public complaints were assessed by the Communications Authority; two resulted in advisory actions. There were no breaches of data privacy or intellectual-property rights, and no confirmed corruption cases.

Community Impact • Fundraising & Donations: Eight televised charity programmes raised HK$200 million, lifting cumulative funds raised through TVB broadcasts to over HK$7.30 billion. The company’s own TVB, Staff & Artistes Fund for Charities granted nearly HK$2.80 million to beneficiaries, while additional drives boosted total 2025 fundraising to HK$3.83 million. • Volunteerism: 160 members of the TVB Volunteer Team provided 745 service hours across 17 events, supporting roughly 2,000 beneficiaries. • Media Outreach: TVB aired 185 environment-themed episodes (137.9 hours, +58.6 % YoY) and offered more than 740 hours of free airtime for government public-interest announcements.

Recognition & Outlook During the year, TVB retained its Hong Kong Green Organisation status, secured CLP’s Smart Energy Award (Public Utility), and received Energywi$e and Wastewi$e Certificates. Looking ahead to 2026, the broadcaster plans further LED retrofits, additional electric-vehicle deployment, expanded staff engagement on sustainability, and deeper NGO collaborations to extend community impact.
