Securing Festive Supply: A Dawn Visit to Sichuan Yurun International Agricultural Trade Center

Deep News02-12

While the city still rests under a deep blue night sky, the Sichuan Yurun International Agricultural Trade Center in Pengzhou, Chengdu, is already brightly lit and bustling with activity, making it the busiest corner of the city. At 5:00 AM on February 11, a visit was made to this largest vegetable and fruit distribution hub in southwestern China. The outdoor temperature was only 3°C, but the market was alive with the sounds of vendors hawking their goods, customers bargaining, and the rumble of trolley wheels, creating a vibrant "Spring Festival symphony."

In the premium fruit trading area, Mr. Liu, a fruit purchaser from Chengdu, was crouching in front of newly arrived boxes of blueberries from Yunnan. "This batch of L25 fragrant blueberries is plump, has high sugar content, and a crisp, sweet taste. They are a star seasonal product, perfect for Spring Festival gift boxes," Mr. Liu explained while quickly scanning codes with his phone to place orders. When asked why he arrived so early, Mr. Liu clarified, "Ensuring supply means racing for freshness. Coming at dawn ensures that by 8:00 AM, when stores in Chengdu open, the blueberries on the shelves are still fresh with dew." Behind him, refrigerated trucks from Yunnan and Hainan were lined up in sequence as workers unloaded and sorted boxes of blueberries, durians, and dragon fruits.

"The market operates year-round without closure, and it becomes even more crucial to maintain trading order during the holiday season," said Liu Jingyang, manager of the fruit market at the Sichuan Yurun International Agricultural Trade Center. As the Spring Festival approaches, the daily trading volume in the fruit market has increased by approximately 30% compared to usual times. The fruit supply comes from across China and regions including Southeast Asia, South America, Africa, and Oceania, primarily serving Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Shaanxi, with trading scale ranking among the top five nationally.

Within the fruit market, order management staff moved through the crowds, conducting patrols and directing traffic, guiding incoming and outgoing trucks to park orderly, and opening green channels for fruit and vegetable transport. From the dawn blueberries at 5 AM to the city-wide fruit fragrance by 8 AM, the Spring Festival supply assurance at the Sichuan Yurun International Agricultural Trade Center not only secures the "rice bag" and "vegetable basket" but also ensures the accessible sweetness for families gathering around the hearth.

Adjacent to the fruit market, the vegetable market handles a daily trading volume of over 9,000 tons, which has recently surged to 15,000 tons per day. Chen Shiming, deputy general manager of the vegetable market at the Sichuan Yurun International Agricultural Trade Center, stated that before the Spring Festival, the market had organized merchants to proactively coordinate resources from core winter vegetable production areas such as Hainan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Sichuan, actively stocking up to ensure supply during the peak consumption period of the holiday.
