New Route Maiden Voyage! Nanjing Maritime Safeguards "Dahua Wheel" Departure to Singapore and Jakarta

Deep News2025-12-31

On the morning of December 31st, under the support of the Nanjing Maritime Safety Administration, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers' vessel "Dahua Wheel" slowly departed from the Longtan Container Terminal of Nanjing Port, heading for Singapore and Jakarta. This event officially marked the maiden voyage of the new international container route connecting Nanjing Port to Singapore and Jakarta. Nanjing currently operates 20 international container routes, and the annual container throughput of the entire port is set to exceed 4 million TEUs, reaching a historic high. This achievement represents a solid step towards the goal of establishing Nanjing as a regional shipping and logistics center, which aims for an annual container throughput of 5 million TEUs at Nanjing Port by 2030. As the lead agency for shipping-related tasks in the regional shipping and logistics center construction, the Nanjing Maritime Safety Administration has released several measures to support this initiative. It has sought support from the Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration, providing proactive services for Nanjing's development as a major corridor, network, and hub, and supporting the capacity upgrade for large vessels and ports. The maximum capacity of container vessels entering and leaving the port has been increased from 1,938 TEUs to 2,600 TEUs, with such vessels now regularly berthing and departing. The maximum allowable draft for vessels arriving at the port has achieved a "two-stage leap," increasing from 11.36 meters to 11.6 meters and then to 11.8 meters. To help companies reduce logistics costs, it pioneered a national "Credit + Intelligence" supervision area for maritime affairs, moving port inspection procedures forward to company sites. This initiative facilitated the shipment of 8,220 TEUs of cargo valued at 8.12 billion yuan annually, saving companies over ten million yuan in logistics costs. Deepening the comprehensive pilot program for expanding the opening-up of the service industry, it took the national lead in promoting "single-document" and "single-container" systems for water-to-water transshipment of the "New Three" categories between Jiangsu-Shanghai and Jiangsu-Zhejiang, later extending these to multiple types of dangerous goods carried by vessels. It ensured the export of 50,000 TEUs of lithium batteries and photovoltaic products, and 34,000 new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 25.3%. For this maiden voyage, the Nanjing Maritime Safety Administration actively leveraged its role as the lead port inspection unit, responsible for the initial approval of international vessel entry, inspections during port stays, and final clearance procedures upon departure. To ensure the smooth transit of the vessel and its cargo, a dedicated service coordination team was established, implementing a "7x24 hour" service with "appointment-based processing and tolerance for missing documents." It launched a "one-stop" green channel service, enabling immediate approval for cargo applications, providing comprehensive, multi-level, and robust support for the vessel's operations. As the terminus of the Yangtze River's 12.5-meter deep-water channel, Nanjing is a deep-sea port extending deep inland and a primary international hub for river-sea transshipment. It is also the most direct and fastest maritime access point for the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. This year, all core indicators for Nanjing Port have hit record highs; as of December 25th, the Nanjing Maritime Safety Administration ensured 300,000 vessel movements and handled 490 million tons of cargo, representing year-on-year increases of 0.9% and 1.9% respectively. International vessel movements reached 2,654.
