China's First Online Solid-State Hydrogen Storage UPS System Deployed at Qingdao Port

Deep News04-01

On March 31, a 5kW solid-state hydrogen storage UPS system, developed by Haizhuojin Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., commenced official operation at the Power Supply Company of Shandong Port Qingdao Port. This marks a zero breakthrough in the commercial application of online solid-state hydrogen storage UPS systems in China. Hydrogen energy, as a secondary energy source with abundant sources and green, low-carbon attributes, is progressively becoming a vital carrier for global energy transition and development. The 2026 Government Work Report explicitly proposed "establishing a National Low-Carbon Transition Fund and cultivating new growth points in hydrogen energy and green fuels." As a zero-carbon secondary energy source, hydrogen energy has become a core driver for China's future energy development.

To promote the commercial application of hydrogen energy technology in ports, Shandong Port has engaged in multiple thematic discussions with Haizhuojin Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. since 2025, planning new measures for the development of the port hydrogen energy industry. In January 2026, Qingdao Port and Haizhuojin Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. jointly signed the "Cooperation Agreement for the Establishment of a Joint Innovation Laboratory for Port Solid-State Hydrogen Storage Technology Application." The collaboration focuses on research and development in various fields, including alloy solid-state hydrogen storage, transportation and refueling technologies, transportation equipment technology, and stationary equipment technology. The successful operation of the solid-state hydrogen storage UPS system represents the first tangible achievement of this strategic partnership.

The newly developed 5kW solid-state hydrogen storage UPS system innovatively utilizes a new generation of nano-composite hydrogen storage materials, achieving a hydrogen storage density of ≥1.95% wt. It enables hydrogen storage at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, featuring high hydrogen storage density and excellent safety performance. With a modular design, the system can be adapted to various power supply scenarios. Deployed in critical locations such as power supply systems, the equipment enables "zero-second" seamless switching of the UPS system during emergencies, effectively ensuring the safe and stable operation of the port's power system and safeguarding port production.
