Google is turning its supply chain decarbonization commitments into tangible investments in zero-emission freight infrastructure.
The company has announced a partnership with Nevoya and the Center for Green Market Activation to deploy 25 electric heavy-duty semi trucks along with supporting charging infrastructure on a fully electric freight route connecting Houston to Dallas, Texas.
Google will acquire the environmental benefits generated by this project in the form of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), a widely used tool for companies to account for and offset logistics emissions within their supply chains.
This deployment is part of a larger program involving 63 trucks in total, which is considered the largest known deployment of Class 8 battery-electric heavy-duty trucks in Texas to date.
These vehicles are expected to collectively travel approximately 11 million miles annually, with estimated emissions reductions of around 92,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) over the contract period compared to conventional diesel trucks.
Market Rationale Behind the Largest Deployment
Class 8 trucks represent the highest weight and load classification in freight transport, historically a major source of carbon emissions in the transportation sector and a significant challenge for commercializing zero-emission technology.
