Two New Ships Delivered on Same Day, Waigaoqiao Border Checkpoint Implements Tailored Clearance Measures

Deep News12-02

On December 2, Shanghai's Waigaoqiao port witnessed the simultaneous departure of two newly built vessels. With specialized support from the Waigaoqiao Border Inspection Station under Shanghai Immigration Inspection, the "Grand Istanbul" and "Ocean Polaris"—constructed by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.—completed border inspection procedures and embarked on their maiden voyages.

The "Ocean Polaris" is a 158,000-ton Suezmax crude oil tanker, while the "Grand Istanbul" is a roll-on/roll-off vessel capable of carrying 9,000 vehicles. To accommodate the dual-ship delivery, the Waigaoqiao Border Inspection Station implemented customized clearance strategies, forming dedicated task forces to streamline documentation and hull inspections. Measures such as on-site processing, simultaneous inspections, and optimized procedures significantly reduced clearance time, ensuring efficient departures.

Since the beginning of this year, the Waigaoqiao Border Inspection Station has facilitated the maiden voyages of 29 new ships. Meanwhile, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has delivered 29 vessels totaling 2.7065 million deadweight tons, exceeding its annual target. Since delivering its first ship in 2003, the company has completed 600 vessels and offshore platforms, surpassing 100 million gross tons with an average annual delivery rate of 27 ships—setting new benchmarks in China's shipbuilding industry.

Today, the company stands as the world's only shipbuilder capable of simultaneously constructing commercial vessels, offshore equipment, and large cruise ships.
