A gauge of French bond risk surpassed a key threshold on Tuesday, underscoring the challenges facing the French government as it strives to rein in its budget deficit and quell protests over the cost of living.
The additional yield investors demand to hold French 10-year government bonds instead of safer German bunds rose 2 basis points to 150 basis points, a closely watched level last seen on October 5.
Earlier this month, as mounting political and fiscal pressures prompted many investors to dump French government bonds, the spread peaked at 159 basis points.
