Tesla Motors (TSLA) announced on Tuesday that its supervised FSD (Full Self-Driving) system has received approval in Croatia and is expected to begin rolling out in the country shortly, making it yet another European nation to greenlight the technology.
The Dutch regulator RDW approved the system in April, with several countries including Belgium following suit. Neighboring Slovenia also granted approval earlier this month. RDW has additionally proposed approving the software across the entire European Union.
However, a road safety group and several EU member states have raised concerns that the system may exceed speed limits. This issue has become one of the most contentious aspects of Tesla's push to roll out FSD in Europe.
Tesla says the expansion of FSD in Europe is crucial for boosting sales and reclaiming market share amid intensifying competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. The EU-wide rollout vote originally scheduled for October has been postponed, with the next possible decision window no earlier than December.
An EU-wide rollout requires support from a "qualified majority," meaning 15 of the EU's 27 member states representing 65% of the bloc's population.
