Industrial Bank Risk Chief Sees Asset Quality Steady in H2, Divergence Across Sectors Still Unclear

Deep News08-28

On August 28, at the 2026 interim results briefing, Industrial Bank Co.,Ltd.'s Chief Risk Officer, Lai Furong, addressed the bank's asset quality outlook. He noted that for the credit card business, a more prudent risk classification standard was adopted this year, which accelerated the exposure of potential risks and led to an increase in new non-performing loans. However, this move is expected to strengthen the quality foundation of credit card assets and mitigate the impact of future risk events. Lai predicted that the credit card non-performing ratio in the second half of the year will still rise compared to last year.

Lai further stated that in the second half of the year, Industrial Bank Co.,Ltd.'s overall asset quality is expected to fluctuate within a reasonable range, yet the pattern of divergence across different business segments remains unclear. For the two key areas of corporate real estate and local government financing operations, new non-performing loans are likely to stay at low levels, with existing risks being steadily resolved. Meanwhile, the retail business will continue to be the focus of risk prevention, and the pressure to control new non-performing loans is expected to persist for some time.
