GM to Report Earnings Before the Bell, Here's What Wall Street Expects

Deep News10-20

General Motors is set to release its third-quarter earnings report before the U.S. stock market opens on Tuesday.

According to market consensus, Wall Street's forecasts are as follows: adjusted earnings per share of $3.63 and revenue of $48.7 billion.

Compared with the same period last year, the expected revenue is essentially flat, while adjusted earnings per share is projected to rise about 30% year over year.

In the third quarter of 2025, General Motors (NYSE: GM) reported revenue of $48.59 billion, net income attributable to shareholders of $1.3 billion, and adjusted earnings per share of $2.80.

Investors are focusing on whether General Motors (NYSE: GM) will raise its 2026 guidance and what early signals management will give about next year's operating outlook.

Wall Street widely expects the U.S. auto industry's operating environment to come under pressure next year.

JPMorgan analyst Rajat Gupta said in an October 11 research note: "We expect third-quarter 2026 results to be in line with expectations and slightly better, but investors will most likely focus on guidance adjustments for 2027, and we believe this earnings report is unlikely to drive a significant upward move in the stock price."

General Motors (NYSE: GM) has raised its guidance multiple times this year, but with market concerns about slowing auto sales and rising commodity costs, analysts are divided on whether the company will raise guidance again in this report.

In its second-quarter report, General Motors (NYSE: GM) updated its 2026 performance targets: adjusted EBIT in the range of $14 billion to $16 billion, corresponding to adjusted earnings per share of $12 to $14; and expected adjusted free cash flow for the auto business of $9.5 billion to $11.5 billion.

Beyond earnings figures and guidance, investors will also be watching several developments: progress in launching the newly redesigned full-size pickup trucks, improvements to warranty policy, and whether the software and services business shows significant growth.
