Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott Donates $20 Million to Youth Mental Health Nonprofit

Deep News13:21

MacKenzie Scott, a prominent philanthropist and former spouse of Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, has contributed $20 million to the U.S. nonprofit organization Active Minds to support efforts addressing the youth mental health crisis.

This contribution represents the largest single unrestricted gift the organization has ever received. Scott is well-known for providing donations without stipulations, allowing recipient organizations full autonomy in allocating the funds. This approach enables groups like Active Minds to expand service programs, plan for long-term sustainability, and direct resources flexibly based on community needs, free from donor-imposed restrictions. Scott had previously supported this nonprofit with a $4 million donation in 2021.

Since initiating a sustained giving campaign through her philanthropic foundation in 2020, Scott's total charitable contributions have reached $26 billion.

In the year 2025 alone, the philanthropist donated a substantial $7.2 billion. A recent analysis indicates she has given away approximately 46% of her net worth, ranking her as the world's third-largest individual philanthropist.

Her philanthropic focus largely centers on initiatives and organizations that support underserved communities, with tackling the adolescent mental health crisis in the United States being a key area of her efforts.
