Russia to Halt Kazakh Oil Exports to Germany via Druzhba Pipeline from May 1

Deep News04-21 18:10

Industry sources indicated on Tuesday that Russia will cease oil exports from Kazakhstan to Germany through the Druzhba pipeline starting May 1. The revised export schedule has been communicated to both Kazakhstan and Germany. Political and commercial relations between Russia and Germany have deteriorated following the conflict in Ukraine, with Berlin's support for Kyiv. The Russian Energy Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In 2022, Germany placed the local subsidiary of Russia's largest oil producer, Rosneft, under trusteeship, marking a break in decades-long energy ties between Berlin and Moscow. In 2025, Kazakhstan exported a total of 2.146 million metric tons of oil to Germany via Russia's Druzhba pipeline, equivalent to approximately 43,000 barrels per day, representing a 44% increase compared to 2024. Kazakhstan supplies oil to Germany through the northern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, which traverses Poland. Supplies have faced multiple disruptions due to Ukrainian drone attacks on oil infrastructure within Russia. Following the outbreak of the conflict between Moscow and Ukraine in 2022, Russia suspended oil deliveries. The PCK refinery, one of Germany's largest oil refineries located in Schwedt in northeastern Germany, had been partially supplied with Kazakh crude transported via this pipeline.
