A collaborative effort spanning over 2,000 kilometers recently unfolded between Guangxi and Yangzhou, bridging the region from the banks of the Yong River to the shores of the Grand Canal. From May 18 to 21, a delegation from the Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone visited Guangxi for a "Yangzhou Enterprises Enter Guangxi" supply chain optimization and ASEAN market exploration tour. Subsequently, from May 28 to 29, a Guangxi delegation reciprocated with a visit to Yangzhou for in-depth discussions. These back-to-back activities formed a complete cycle of industrial cooperation between Guangxi and Yangzhou.
Guangxi serves as China's strategic gateway for opening up and cooperation with ASEAN, while Yangzhou is a key node city in the Yangtze River Delta integration. The two regions exhibit strong industrial complementarity and vast potential for collaboration. At a symposium in Nanning on May 18, Hu Chunfeng, Deputy Party Secretary and Director of the Management Committee of the Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, emphasized that Yangzhou's industrial strengths can be amplified through Guangxi's logistics channels, and that Guangxi acts as a crucial bridgehead for Yangzhou enterprises expanding outward.
During the Yangzhou talks on May 28, the Guangxi delegation stated they arrived "with a list of quality resources and sincere demands." Both sides concurred that their partnership is not merely about one-way support but aims for mutual achievement and common development.
While in Guangxi, the Yangzhou delegation inspected key platforms including the Huayi Qinzhou Chemical New Materials Integration Base (Guangxi's largest single industrial investment project, with total investment nearing 100 billion yuan), the Zhongwei Qinzhou Industrial Base (the nation's largest ternary precursor production base, with an annual capacity of 180,000 tons), and the Beibu Gulf Port Automated Container Terminal (China's first fully automated seaport-railway intermodal terminal). They also visited open cooperation carriers such as the China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Application Cooperation Center and the China-ASEAN Trade Center.
Executives from Yangzhou-based companies, including Weichai Power, Yangli Group, and JA Solar, expressed interest in establishing production bases or distribution centers in Guangxi to reduce logistics costs and expand overseas channels.
At the Yangzhou forum, Guangxi enterprises like Yuchai Jingcai, Huasi Wood Industry, and Huilaibao Machinery showcased alongside Yangzhou firms such as Neolix, Chuanqi Optoelectronics, and CIMC Intelligent Equipment. Guangxi representatives highlighted their need for the Yangtze River Delta's technology, capital, and markets, expressing eagerness for deeper cooperation with Yangzhou companies in high-end equipment, new materials, photoelectric display, and other sectors to upgrade industrial chains.
A consensus emerged: research and development in Yangzhou, transformation and application in Guangxi; headquarters in the Yangtze River Delta, production bases in ASEAN.
The activities yielded tangible outcomes. On May 20, Xiangshan District of Guilin and the Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone held an investment promotion conference, reaching multiple cooperative intentions in cultural tourism integration, green industries, and technological innovation.
In Yangzhou, the Management Committee of the Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone signed a "Cooperative Framework Agreement for Paired Development" with the Management Committee of the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park and the Guangxi Jingxi Border Economic Cooperation Zone Management Center. Concurrently, the Yangzhou Small and Medium Enterprise Service Association and the Jingxi Agricultural and Special Product Development Service Association signed a similar cooperation agreement.
These agreements mark a progression in Guangxi-Yangzhou cooperation from enterprise and project levels to mechanisms involving park co-development and public service platform integration, establishing a closed-loop collaboration mechanism guided by government, driven by enterprises, supported by associations, and validated on the ground.
On May 29, the Guangxi delegation toured key Yangzhou enterprises including Yangli Group, JA Solar, Weichai Power Yangzhou Company, and Chuanqi Optoelectronics.
The events highlighted several key cooperation directions. Yangzhou's technological prowess in smart connected vehicles, photoelectric display, and intelligent equipment effectively complements Guangxi's unique advantages in resources, geographic location, and access to ASEAN markets.
Both sides agreed that Guangxi-Yangzhou industrial collaboration is not only a powerful measure to optimize regional economic layout but also a vivid practice in serving the construction of a unified national market and facilitating dual domestic and international circulation. They pledged to seize this opportunity to achieve greater accomplishments through joint efforts across mountains and seas.
