At the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, held in Dalian, JinkoSolar Vice President Qian Jing shared insights with the media. Discussing recent price fluctuations for photovoltaic modules, Qian Jing stated that the company's operational focus this year is on both volume and profitability, which will involve being selective about orders.
Strategic Market Positioning
"Every company has its own profit equilibrium point," Qian Jing noted. She explained that a company's product pricing is also influenced by its global footprint. Firms reliant on a single market may be more sensitive to price changes, whereas those with a diversified market presence generally have stronger risk resilience.
Supply and Demand Outlook
She also indicated that high-efficiency modules, particularly those above 650W, may face supply shortages in the future. With strict controls on new production capacity and the introduction of new policies, these modules could become even scarcer.
The Central Role of Patents
On the topic of patent litigation within the photovoltaic industry, Qian Jing remarked that such legal disputes among leading companies in any technology-intensive sector are normal. JinkoSolar has established a robust barrier built on its core technology patents, she said, citing the quantity, quality, and critical nature of its portfolio. This includes holding all core patents for TOPCon cell technology, which is viewed as the mainstream single-cell or foundational technology for tandem cell structures in the medium to long term.
"Patents will undoubtedly be a crucial focus and a defensive moat for JinkoSolar moving forward," Qian Jing stated frankly. For overseas capacity expansion, patents are the most important factor, as partners seek out companies with proprietary technology. Therefore, patents are vital not only for protecting current business but also for securing future opportunities.
Future Technology Pathways
Regarding data center AIDC components, Qian Jing believes that the use of tandem cell structures is a certainty, whether for current terrestrial data centers or future space-based photovoltaics. The foundational TOPCon technology holds a position of priority, if not uniqueness. Tandem structures based on TOPCon represent the most feasible and commercially viable path forward. Consequently, Qian Jing expressed confidence that the era of TOPCon technology will continue for the foreseeable future.
