On September 5th, Bilibili Inc. wrapped up its first-ever "build in bilibili·AI Creation Open Competition." During the concurrent offline developer meetup, "bilibili builder club," the platform's AI section lead, Ren Dong, highlighted a significant shift among young users, who are transitioning from merely consuming AI-related content to actively building with the technology. He noted that AI users on Bilibili are no longer just passive viewers but are evolving into creators.
Ren Dong explained that users initially visit the platform for news and perspectives, then progress to structured learning about AI, followed by deeper technical discussions. Eventually, a segment of these users fully commits to applying AI to their personal projects and products. In this journey, the role of the "Builder" has become increasingly vital—these individuals are neither traditional developers nor solely content creators. Their common trait is turning ideas into tangible outcomes while openly documenting the process, a practice known as "Build in Public."
The competition attracted over 30,000 submissions from 13,400 creators. Notably, more than 60% of participants lacked professional development backgrounds, close to 90% were uploaders with fewer than 10,000 followers, and over 80% operated as single-person teams. During the event, participants could publish their products on Bilibili's Toy platform, where submissions were collectively used nearly 50 million times.
The total prize pool for this year's competition reached 1.43 million yuan. The first-place award, a 1 million yuan prize, went to uploaders W博士 and AI猫娘 for their project 《猫娘计划ProjectN.E.K.O.》. The second and third prizes were awarded to 扎克鸡 for 《元气骑士3D版》 and 电烤皇带鱼 for 《世界之门》, respectively.
Ren Dong also announced that the second edition of the AI Creation Open Competition is set to launch soon. "Bilibili aims to support Builders across four key areas: traffic, computing power, distribution, and industry. We want to ensure quality projects get recommended, searched, and shared; provide Builders access to models, APIs, and vendor resources; offer opportunities for product launches and industry visibility; and connect outstanding projects with commercial partners, startup collaborators, and investment ecosystems."
The platform's AI content engagement continues to surge. Data reveals that in the second quarter of 2026, consumption time for AI knowledge content grew 72% year-over-year. Additionally, over 190 million users watch AI-related content on the platform monthly, and AI advertising revenue has climbed more than 100% compared to the same period last year.
