Nine roads in Beijing's Daxing District have recently received official names, as announced on the website of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources.
The new names are designed to carry forward the district's cultural heritage. The Daxing Biomedical Industry Base, established in 2002 and integrated into the Zhongguancun Science Park in 2006, is known as "China's Medicine Valley." The new road names shoulder the responsibility of representing the long history of traditional Chinese medicine while also safeguarding the local character of Daxing, painting a picture of integrated industrial and urban development that blends the ancient with the modern.
As a hub for a hundred-billion-yuan biomedical industry, the base already features a naming system with roads like Huatuo Road, Shizhen Road, and Simiao Road, all honoring famous historical physicians. The latest six names—Qihuang Street, Jujing Lane, Xiube North Road, Xiube South Road, Anmin Road, and Jishi Lane—continue this cultural thread, weaving the origins of TCM, the original intent of medicine-making, and the ideal of aiding the world into the urban fabric.
Qihuang Street – The name combines Qibo and Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor), foundational figures in TCM. Located in the traditional Chinese medicine R&D and transformation zone, the name aligns with the base's focus on modern TCM and natural medicines, inheriting the essence of ancient medical arts and highlighting a development direction of integrated innovation between Chinese and Western medicine.
Jujing Lane – This name derives from the "Jujing Quanxiang" medical ethics典故 (allusion), symbolizing benevolent care for the world. The surrounding area clusters new drug incubation platforms, testing services, and clinical support facilities, embodying the hopeful expectation that scientific innovation will safeguard public health and that platform strengths will nurture high-quality pharmaceutical companies.
Xiube North Road and Xiube South Road – The name references the ancient pharmaceutical adage, "Preparing medicines unseen, but with a conscience known to heaven." The roads are near standardized production plants and quality control centers, using the name as a benchmark to strictly uphold drug safety standards and interpret the park's ethos of meticulous manufacturing and诚信 (integrity) in R&D.
Anmin Road and Jishi Lane – These two names echo each other, articulating the mission of the biomedical industry. Anmin Road, meaning "Pacifying the People," is near a cluster of vaccine enterprises, guarding public health and safety. Jishi Lane, meaning "Aiding the World," borders areas for high-end medical devices and cutting-edge cell and gene therapy, tackling difficult diseases. Pacifying the people and aiding the world represent the unwavering pursuit of the Medicine Valley's industry.
Alongside industrial prosperity, local cultural heritage is preserved. The names Xiniyuan Road and Dazang Road are derived from original village names in the area, while Shuangyong Road reflects local hydrological features, allowing nostalgia to take root in the new industrial city.
Xiniyuan Road – The name originates from the former Liyuan (Pear Garden) Village in the area, with the addition of "Xin" (New) to avoid duplication. It retains the historical印记 (imprint) of the village, accommodates local sentiment, and achieves a smooth transition between park expansion and the cultural legacy of the old village.
Dazang Road – Taken from the traditional name of Zangjia Village, this follows Daxing's tradition of naming places after rural settlements, respecting the original residential history of the land and allowing local印记 (imprints) to grow alongside the industrial park.
Shuangyong Road – This name closely relates to Daxing's geographical特征 (characteristic) of thriving by water. The Yongding River is Daxing's mother river, and the Yongxing River is an important regional water system. The "双" (shuang, meaning double/two) refers to the two rivers, and the double appearance of the character "永" (yong, meaning perpetual)寓意 (symbolizes) water nourishing the fertile land, injecting aquatic vitality and enduring momentum into the hundred-billion-yuan Medicine Valley.
The nine roads represent two complementary veins. One vein—Qihuang, Jujing, and Xiube—strings together a complete medical culture IP, continuously polishing the "China's Medicine Valley" brand and externally shaping a professional, profound, and people-aiding industrial image. The other vein—Liyuan (Xiniyuan), Dazang, and Shuangyong—preserves Daxing's local乡土 (native) character, coexisting and integrating with the China Medicine Valley industrial park, ensuring that as industry is built, cultural heritage remains, and people's livelihoods are warmed.
