Xiaomi's Lu Weibing Reveals Two Core Technologies Behind Humanoid Robots Working in Factories

Xiaomi Group (HK01810) released its 2025 performance report on the evening of March 24, showing total revenue of 457.287 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 25.0%, and an adjusted net profit of 39.166 billion yuan, up 43.8% year-on-year. During the earnings conference call that evening, Lu Weibing, Partner, President, and President of the Mobile Phone Division at Xiaomi Group, responded to questions about Xiaomi's humanoid robots undergoing "internships" in factories. He stated that Xiaomi has been investing in robotics for five to six years and expects key breakthroughs in the field this year, such as performing tasks in automotive factories.

Lu Weibing described this as a very important and groundbreaking step. He emphasized that the robot's ability to work on the factory floor relies on critical breakthroughs in large models. The robot can operate autonomously for three hours, achieving a success rate of over 90% in screw installation and meeting the production line's fastest cycle time requirement of 76 seconds. Two key technologies support this capability: first, the dexterous hand technology based on a tactile grasping fine-tuning model, and second, the robot's Visual-Language-Action model, referred to as Xiaomi-Robotics-0.

However, Lu Weibing also noted that the robots are still in the early stages of factory deployment and that widespread application will take time, likely around five years. He mentioned that Xiaomi is accelerating progress and that results in robotics will be demonstrated at different stages this year.

On March 2, Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, announced that Xiaomi's robots had begun "internships" in automotive factories, initially achieving autonomous work in scenarios such as self-tapping nut installation stations and material box transportation.
