China's elderly care market has now reached a multi-trillion yuan scale. Data indicates that behind the population of over 300 million seniors lies a silver economy market valued at up to 12 trillion yuan. This vast elderly demographic has directly resulted in a shortage of professional caregivers, creating a significant gap in the industry.
JD.com plans to establish 150 training bases nationwide, targeting this substantial gap. The company is approaching the senior care industry with an infrastructure mindset, breaking down care services into 144 standardized steps. This approach aims to reduce service costs through large-scale training while offering salaries more than 20% above the industry average to attract and retain talent.
In December 2025, JD.com opened a self-operated nursing station in Tianjin, which is connected to the long-term care insurance system and offers over a hundred services. Practicing nurses, rehabilitation therapists, and certified nursing assistants from this station can serve nearly 50 surrounding cities. In Tianjin's Hexi District, a smart elderly care platform built by JD Cloud has been operational for nearly three years. This platform integrates 21 types of data across four major categories, including public security, healthcare, and social security, covering 200,000 seniors. With a single home-based care service card, seniors can pay for services like meal assistance and housekeeping, while the platform simultaneously records consumption data to accurately refine services.
Recently, the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau and JD.com reached a strategic cooperation agreement to promote the coordinated development of the capital's elderly care initiatives and industry. The collaboration will jointly advance the deep integration of online and offline elderly care services in Beijing, aiming to build a senior care system with distinctive capital features, cultivate the silver economy, promote elderly care consumption, and achieve a virtuous cycle of improved livelihoods and industrial development.
Through this partnership, JD.com will also collaborate with the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau to launch a "Warm Sun Seniors Assistance" public welfare activity, donating diapers and gifting "nursing care packages" to 100 elderly care service institutions across the city. This practical action aims to support the care of seniors with limited mobility, enhance their quality of life, and contribute to the development of inclusive elderly care.
Since initiating the "Warm Sun Action" in 2021, JD.com has continuously deepened its elderly assistance services, consistently treating them as a vital component of its corporate social responsibility. Leveraging its robust supply chain and technological innovation capabilities, the company has built a comprehensive senior support system covering multiple dimensions, including products, services, and emotional support. JD.com intends to use this strategic cooperation as an opportunity to integrate its housekeeping services, healthcare, home appliances and furnishings, quality food delivery, and hotel and travel businesses. It plans to create a one-stop platform for home and community-based elderly care via the JD.com App, enhancing the user experience for seniors by setting up dedicated service sections and launching age-friendly interfaces.
To meet society's growing and diverse needs for elderly care services, JD Home Services has taken the lead in establishing specialized training courses for senior care. These courses cover standard operating procedures for daily life assistance—such as meals, daily routines, and bathing assistance—as well as health monitoring processes, emergency response protocols, procedures for providing psychological comfort to seniors, and home-based rehabilitation processes. Previously, JD Home Services has helped senior households solve daily cleaning challenges through its basic services, which include regular cleaning, appliance cleaning, repairs, laundry, and organization.
In the professional services sector, JD Health continues to deepen its closed-loop online services encompassing "medical care, testing, diagnosis, and medication," enabling seniors to enjoy a one-stop healthcare experience from home. Through the Geriatrics Center of JD Internet Hospital, JD Health collaborates with multi-disciplinary specialists from top-tier hospitals across the country to make quality medical resources more accessible to the elderly, comprehensively addressing major health issues in later life stages. This supports seniors in achieving more convenient long-term comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and health management, caring for their overall physical and mental wellbeing. JD's nurse home-visit service continues to expand, with nearly 60% of its service recipients being seniors; the number of practicing nurses on the platform has now exceeded 10,000.
Addressing the challenge many seniors face with operating smartphones, JD's 3C Digital division is collaborating with manufacturers to create new products, such as large-screen AI phones, utilizing a C2M (Customer-to-Manufacturer) model.
JD's Home Appliances and Furnishings business is also actively developing services including basic hard remodeling, home adaptation for aging in place, and the provision of smart products, focusing on creating a safe, convenient, and comfortable home living environment for seniors. Currently, the supply of age-friendly products through JD Home Appliances and Furnishings has increased by over 100% year-on-year. The platform has expanded its range to 87 age-friendly categories, covering more than 3,000 brands and over 500,000 specific products. Furthermore, JD.com has systematically identified the genuine challenges and needs of seniors across seven key life scenarios: daily living, bathing, mobility, cooking, housekeeping, entertainment, and safety. The company is collaborating with the China Association for Standardization and leading industry brands to jointly promote the standardization and upgrade of age-friendly products.
