Hong Kong Stock Moves: PATEO Soars Over 9% Intraday on Acquisition of 70% Stake in Chengdu Mingyi, Betting on the In-Vehicle Optical Communication Sector

Stock News08-10 15:30

PATEO (02889) surged more than 9% in intraday trading, before settling at a 7.47% gain to HK$169.8, with turnover reaching HK$152 million. The company announced the acquisition of approximately 70% equity in Chengdu Mingyi.

Chengdu Mingyi is one of the few domestic companies capable of mass-producing single-channel 100G TIA (transimpedance amplifier) chips, used in 400G/800G optical modules, with the potential to fully replace leading international communication chips. Its radio frequency front-end chip performance metrics are on par with global top-tier manufacturers, positioning it as an industry leader. By acquiring Chengdu Mingyi, PATEO can fully capitalize on the high-growth demand for optical communication electric chips and the domestic substitution trend, benefiting from industry tailwinds.

An analysis of the move highlights that PATEO's "software-hardware-chip-cloud" strategy aims to build technological moats in areas such as smart cockpits, in-vehicle AI agents, and physical AI world models. The evolution of these applications—from L4 autonomous driving to multi-modal real-time perception—is driving explosive growth in in-vehicle data transmission needs. As a smart vehicle's data throughput begins to rival that of a small data center, the migration of optical communication technology from AI servers to in-vehicle scenarios is seen as an inevitable progression.
