Economic data for the first three quarters of 2026 was released on the 19th — gross domestic product reached 107,107.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%, in line with the full-year economic growth target. In the face of complex changes in the external environment, China's economy withstood pressure and operated steadily. The economic increment in the first three quarters was the largest increase for the same period in the past five years, and the resilience and vitality of development continued to be demonstrated. This achievement has not come easily and is truly commendable. We must firm up our confidence, forge ahead against difficulties, and strive to realize a good start for the 15th Five-Year Plan.
Confidence stems from the resilience of the economic fundamentals. In the first three quarters, positive changes in major national economic indicators increased. Economic growth remained in the lead among the world's major economies. Affected by rising international crude oil prices, some international institutions' forecasts for third-quarter economic growth of major economies were generally lower than those for the second quarter, but China's third-quarter growth rate rebounded by 0.2 percentage points from the second quarter. Especially in September, most indicators improved compared with July and August. The main tone of "stability" in China's economy has not changed. This has laid a good foundation for the smooth realization of the full-year target and is where our confidence lies in forging ahead against difficulties.
Confidence stems from the vitality of high-quality development. Momentum is turning toward the new: the contribution rate of new industrial momentum to industrial growth has risen quarter by quarter, and the contribution rate of new momentum to economic growth exceeded 40%. The structure is turning toward optimization: the agricultural planting structure has been optimized, manufacturing is accelerating toward the middle and high end, the scale of the service industry continues to expand, and the contribution rate of domestic demand to economic growth exceeded 70%. Quality and efficiency are improving: the green transformation trend is positive, and enterprise profits have improved... In the first three quarters, the momentum of "progress" continued to accumulate, injecting strong impetus into the stable and positive development of the economy.
Confidence also stems from the strong support of the policy toolbox. Since the beginning of this year, fiscal, monetary, industrial, and livelihood policies have worked in the same direction and continued to show results. In the first three quarters, consumer prices rose moderately, and the relationship between market supply and demand gradually improved. In September, China's manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) and non-manufacturing business activity index both returned to the expansion range... Macro policies have rhythm and room, micro entities have improvements and expectations, and policies and the market resonate at the same frequency. The development potential of China's economy is constantly being stimulated.
China's economy has always grown and strengthened amid storms and challenges. Maintain strategic focus, actively implement various policies, make good use of various opportunities and advantages, and turn the value of policies into market creativity and a sense of gain. China's economy will surely be able to firmly grasp the initiative in development while moving forward under pressure, and open up broad horizons while forging ahead against difficulties.
