China's Ministry of Commerce has issued a statement regarding the UK government's decision not to support the use of wind turbine products from Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Limited in its offshore wind projects. A spokesperson for the ministry addressed media inquiries on the matter.
When asked about a recent statement published by the UK Secretary of State for Energy on the parliamentary website, which indicated the UK government does not support the use of Ming Yang Smart Energy's turbines in its offshore wind projects, the spokesperson responded as follows.
The spokesperson stated that China has taken note of the UK's statement. The exclusion of Chinese products from the UK's wind power projects on the grounds of 'national security' contradicts the UK's long-standing advocacy of an 'open and free' market philosophy. This move is detrimental to the economic development of local regions in the UK and the improvement of its citizens' welfare, and it will negatively impact practical bilateral economic and trade cooperation. China firmly opposes this action.
The spokesperson also referenced UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to China in January of this year, during which he explicitly stated the UK's willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields including trade, investment, finance, and environmental protection, to foster mutual economic growth and bring benefits to the people of both nations.
China hopes that the UK government will provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies, effectively advance practical cooperation in Sino-British economic and trade relations, and promote the healthy development of bilateral ties.
