Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. presented two new hybrid SUV concept vehicles—an urban plug-in hybrid SUV concept and the Terrano plug-in hybrid concept—at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, expanding its new energy vehicle lineup. The company also announced that its Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Nissan, has become the official partner of the Nissan Formula E Team for the Chinese round of the twelfth season.
The first concept, Nissan's urban plug-in hybrid SUV, is a forward-looking strategic model developed by integrating global resources and focusing on the needs of Chinese consumers. It embodies the brand’s core strengths in new energy technology, intelligent features, aesthetic design, and safety. The second concept, the Nissan Terrano plug-in hybrid, inherits the brand’s heritage in off-road capability and comfort DNA, aiming to deliver an all-scenario vehicle that performs both in rugged terrain and daily commutes.
Ivan Espinosa, CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., stated, "Together with the NX8, these two concept vehicles signal the next evolution of Nissan’s SUV lineup. Their production versions are planned to debut within a year and will join the NX8 to form Nissan’s new new-energy SUV series. By expanding our range of smart choices, we will connect with more Chinese users, families, and communities."
Over the next year, Nissan plans to launch five new energy models, including the two new hybrid SUV concepts, accelerating its product rollout to offer Chinese consumers more diverse new energy mobility options and advance the company’s strategic transformation in the Chinese market.
Amid a critical period of transformation in the global automotive industry, Nissan has introduced a new long-term vision: "Intelligent mobility that brightens lives." Under this vision, the company has defined a dual role for its three major markets, including China, within its global strategy: serving as both a pillar of performance and a core engine driving global competitiveness and industrial capability. China’s dual positioning enables it to support local market growth while strengthening Nissan’s global product portfolio.
Looking ahead, Nissan plans to export the N7 model to Latin America and Southeast Asia, and the Frontier Pro to Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Additionally, the NX8 and other models are slated for export to specific global markets. Nissan will not only promote overseas exports but also establish comprehensive after-sales service systems abroad to ensure parts supply and enhance the customer experience.
