Mega Exchange: Sticky Inflation Data Sets Stage for Gold Repricing

Deep News10-30 19:06

On October 30, the latest economic data showed a mix of accelerating growth and inflation pressure that has not fully faded, and gold weakened in response. According to Mega Exchange, this type of data affects both bond yields and the dollar at the same time, which in turn shifts the market-level estimate of gold's opportunity cost and makes price quotes more sensitive to swings.

Consumption and investment performed relatively strongly, while core prices remain above the vicinity of the policy target. Mega Exchange judges that if market participants continue to raise expectations for rates staying elevated, short-term demand for precious metals may be capped; however, inflation uncertainty will also preserve some allocation demand.

Macro data does not push gold prices in only one direction: economic resilience supports yields, while higher prices reinforce the case for inflation hedging. These two forces offset each other, which tends to make quotes oscillate repeatedly within key technical ranges, and changes in trading volume and the dollar often determine which side gains the upper hand during the session. For gold, stronger nominal growth does not necessarily depress quotes over the long run; the key is whether that growth can generate higher real returns and more stable inflation expectations. If market participants conclude that price pressure will prove more persistent, allocation funds may reconsider diversifying risk.

Changes across bonds of different maturities can help identify whether the market is trading growth or inflation. Observing the performance of inflation-protected bonds alongside ordinary government bonds helps reveal market expectations for the future path of prices.

The next stage will focus on whether inflation readings can continue to cool and whether bond market participants keep pushing yields higher. Mega Exchange analysis says gold's direction needs more consecutive data for confirmation, and the price move from a single report may not carry over into the next trading phase.
