According to a Tuesday report by Nikkei citing unnamed U.S. government sources, American authorities proactively conducted a "rate check" in January to support the yen and are prepared to engage in joint intervention if requested by Japan. The report indicated that the rate check, carried out by the New York Fed on behalf of the U.S. Treasury, was initiated without a prior request from Japan's Ministry of Finance.
