Tesla Secures Top Spot in South Korea's Imported Car Market for Fourth Straight Month

Industry figures released on Thursday reveal that Tesla maintained its position as the leading seller of imported vehicles in South Korea for the fourth consecutive month in May, driven by robust demand for its Model Y.

According to data from the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), 29,860 new imported passenger cars were registered last month, marking a 5.9% increase compared to the same period a year earlier.

Tesla Motors led the market with sales of 10,866 units, holding the top position since February.

BMW followed with sales of 6,555 vehicles last month, while Mercedes-Benz ranked third with 3,553 units sold. BYD secured the seventh position with sales of 1,032 vehicles.

The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling imported model with sales of 8,762 units. It was followed by the BMW 5 Series with 2,060 sales, and the Tesla Model 3 in third place with 1,301 units sold.

Analyzed by fuel type, electric vehicles constituted 48.6% of the market, with 14,520 units sold. Hybrid vehicles followed with a 40.4% share, while gasoline-powered cars accounted for 10.4% of sales.
