DIDA INC released its 2026 Summer Carpool Short-Distance Travel Insights on August 4th evening, revealing that as the peak season reaches its midpoint, tourism demand continues to surge across regions.
Based on carpooling big data, the report shows that over 70% of intra-city tourism orders during summer involve rides of 20 kilometers or more, while more than 60% of cross-city tourism orders fall within a 200-kilometer range, highlighting short-distance trips as the dominant segment.
An analysis of the top 20 carpool tourism routes in North China, Northeast China, and Northwest China indicates that nearly 90% of these routes are under 300 kilometers. Specifically, there are 19 routes between 60-120 kilometers, 15 between 120-180 kilometers, and 5 between 180-240 kilometers. Additionally, these routes exhibit strong round-trip patterns: in the Northeast, North China, and Northwest regions, round-trip routes account for 70%, 50%, and 40% of the top 20, respectively, reflecting the economic and social ties between neighboring cities.
Provincial and autonomous region data shows that the top five regions for out-of-province hotel and tourism carpool orders are Anhui at 26.8%, Hebei at 25.3%, Jiangsu at 20.4%, Jiangxi at 20.3%, and Guangxi at 18.5%. The sixth to tenth positions are Inner Mongolia at 18.3%, Zhejiang at 18.0%, Hunan at 17.2%, Shanxi at 16.0%, and Henan at 14.6%. In contrast, Heilongjiang, Tibet, and Xinjiang each have less than 1% of out-of-province carpool tourism orders.
The distribution of out-of-province carpool tourism orders helps clarify user profiles: when distances are moderate, road conditions and terrain are suitable for ride-hailing, and the destination province features nationally renowned scenic spots or emerging local attractions, users are more likely to choose carpooling for cross-province travel with direct, one-stop service. This underscores the complementary role of carpooling in facilitating tourist travel between adjacent provinces.
