CMB President Wang Liang: Actively Promoting "Internationalization, Diversification, Differentiation, and Digitalization" Development

Deep News11-20

The 2025 Shenzhen International Finance Conference, hosted by Renmin University of China, was held in Shenzhen from November 19 to 21. Wang Liang, President of China Merchants Bank (CMB), stated in his speech that China's banking industry has moved beyond the phase of scale expansion and entered a new stage of transformation, upgrading, and value creation. Accelerating this transformation is an inevitable requirement for banks to serve national strategies, adapt to market trends, effectively address low-interest-rate challenges, and manage risks.

Wang emphasized that the banking sector must closely align national needs, industry directions, customer expectations, and its own capabilities to enhance its ability to support China's modernization and the development of a strong financial system.

He outlined six key areas for accelerating transformation and upgrading: 1. Strengthening financial services in five key areas to enhance specialized capabilities. 2. Identifying new trends in industrial transformation to improve professional service capabilities. 3. Adapting to changes in social financing structures to boost comprehensive service capabilities. 4. Responding to high-level opening-up policies to enhance international service capabilities. 5. Meeting new demands for better living standards by improving retail finance and wealth management services. 6. Seizing opportunities in the Greater Bay Area to drive transformation with new momentum.

Wang Liang noted that CMB will leverage the opportunities of the era, the advantages of the Greater Bay Area, and policy benefits to accelerate its transformation. The bank is committed to advancing "internationalization, diversification, differentiation, and digitalization" to contribute to China's financial strength and the high-level opening-up of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
