This luminous phenomenon occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with atoms and molecules in Earth's atmosphere, typically visible in high-altitude night skies near the polar regions. Under elevated geomagnetic conditions, such displays can also be observed in mid-to-high latitude areas like Daxing'anling.

The aurora, often associated with Earth's magnetic poles, occasionally extends to lower latitudes during intense solar activity, offering rare and mesmerizing views.
