During the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, XPeng Group Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng, along with Vice Chairman and Co-President Gu Hongdi, spoke with the media.
When discussing flying cars, He Xiaopeng noted that their development is highly challenging. XPeng's current flying car model represents the seventh generation and has been under development for 13 years, with the first product expected to launch by the end of this year. He pointed out that it is rare for a commercial company to spend 13 years developing a product that has not yet entered the market.
He expressed the company's ambition to sell the current generation of flying cars in more countries worldwide. XPeng is already in discussions with potential partners in the Middle East, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Additionally, the company is developing a second-generation flying car designed to suit markets in Europe, the United States, and China.
He Xiaopeng emphasized that the goal for future flying cars is not only to ensure safety but also to make them widely accessible. Through the manufacturing process, XPeng has observed that aircraft supply chains are significantly more expensive than those for automobiles—up to 40 times higher for components of comparable quality. He expressed optimism that within the next 10 to 20 years, flying cars will not only be safe but also affordable for the general public.
