UK Antitrust Body Initiates Probe into Danone's $1.2 Billion Huel Acquisition

Deep News07-15

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority has commenced a preliminary phase one investigation into Danone's proposed $1.2 billion purchase of the plant-based meal replacement brand Huel.

The French food giant Danone (BN), known for brands like Activia yogurt and Evian water, finalized the agreement to acquire the UK-based producer of powdered meal replacements and ready-to-drink shakes earlier this year.

The regulator has set a deadline of September 11th to conclude this initial review phase.

By that date, the CMA will decide whether to clear the deal or refer it for a more in-depth second-phase investigation.

The authority began its information-gathering process in May, seeking input from interested parties regarding the transaction's potential impact on competition within the UK market.
