Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Border Inspection Station recently activated emergency corridors for two consecutive medical evacuations of injured sailors. On August 1st at around 7 PM, a Chinese crew member aboard the "Zhenhua" vessel, operating near the Waigaoqiao area of Shanghai, suffered an eye injury at work with significant bleeding, requiring immediate hospital care. After receiving the distress call, the station responded swiftly by opening an emergency corridor. It promptly verified the vessel's itinerary and coordinated with the ship's agent, the East China Sea No.1 Rescue and Salvage Bureau, and the 120 emergency center to conduct a combined sea-land rescue operation. As the helicopter carrying the injured sailor landed at Gaodong Airport, border inspection officers quickly processed the necessary immigration procedures and assisted in transferring the patient to an ambulance for transport to the hospital.
A similar emergency occurred at 5 AM on August 2nd when a Vietnamese crew member aboard the Tuvaluan-flagged "Anhai Confidence" vessel experienced gastric bleeding. The Waigaoqiao station once again activated its emergency corridor to facilitate rapid medical treatment. According to the station, it has collaborated closely with relevant port authorities to establish a joint rescue system. Since 2026, it has provided assistance to nearly 30 injured or ill sailors, demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian aid, maintaining a safe and efficient customs clearance environment, supporting national strategies, and addressing public concerns as part of its responsibilities as an immigration management agency.
