Apple Tests Four Design Prototypes for Upcoming Smart Glasses

Deep News04:11

Apple is reportedly planning to launch its first smart glasses in 2027, with a potential official unveiling by the end of this year, according to technology journalist Mark Gurman. Gurman, who has been closely tracking the strategic development of the company's smart glasses project, has now revealed additional details regarding the product's appearance. He indicated that Apple is currently testing four distinct design styles, and the final market release may include some or all of these variations.

The disclosed designs include: a large rectangular frame, a slim rectangular frame (similar to the style worn by CEO Tim Cook), a larger oval or round frame, and a smaller oval or round frame. Apple is also evaluating multiple color options, including black, navy blue, and light brown. In certain respects, this product appears more restrained compared to Apple's previous ambitious plans involving multiple mixed reality and augmented reality devices. This broader strategy has faced setbacks due to repeated product delays and the modest market reception of the Vision Pro.

Simultaneously, the described glasses sound closer in concept to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. They will not feature a display but will support functionalities such as capturing photos and videos (Apple may utilize an oval-shaped camera lens), answering calls, playing music, and interacting with a highly anticipated upgraded version of Siri.
