OpenAI Lures Top AI Researcher Ruoming Pang from Meta

OpenAI has recruited renowned artificial intelligence researcher Ruoming Pang from Meta, according to a report by The Information. Pang previously led the AI model team at Apple and had joined Meta approximately seven months ago after leaving the iPhone maker.

Earlier reports indicated that Pang received a compensation package valued at over $200 million when he joined Meta last year, to be paid out over several years.

The report states that Pang left Meta last week after OpenAI had actively courted him for several months.

Meta and its industry peers are fueling an intense talent war in Silicon Valley through aggressive hiring. Numerous tech companies are offering substantial compensation packages to attract top talent, aiming to gain an edge in the race to lead the next wave of AI innovation.
