According to informed sources, automaker Stellantis NV has agreed to assemble at least one model from its Chinese partner DONGFENG GROUP at its plant located in Rennes, France.
As a long-standing Chinese partner of Stellantis, DONGFENG GROUP previously signed a $1.2 billion agreement to produce Peugeot and Jeep brand vehicles in China. The company now aims to manufacture its own branded vehicles within the European Union to circumvent potential tariffs.
Reports indicate that executives from DONGFENG GROUP visited the Rennes plant in January and April of this year.
A spokesperson for Stellantis NV declined to comment on the matter. DONGFENG GROUP did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
