On July 24, the National Energy Administration released data on the issuance and trading of renewable energy green electricity certificates (GECs) for June 2026.
In June, the administration issued 373 million GECs, covering 1.2475 million renewable energy power generation projects. Among these, 206 million certificates were tradable, accounting for 55.41% of the total, with the volume of tradable certificates remaining broadly stable compared to the previous month.
The current issuance batch corresponds to the renewable electricity generated in May 2026, totaling 270 million GECs, which represents 72.38% of the overall issuance. This month saw increases in the number of GECs issued for conventional hydropower, biomass power, and other renewable energy types, with conventional hydropower recording the largest growth.
In June 2026, the national trading volume of GECs reached 82.73 million certificates, of which 42.89 million were from green electricity transactions. By power source type, wind and solar power GECs were the top two in trading volume, serving as the core categories in the market.
In June 2026, 39.84 million GECs were traded independently. Market prices exhibited a clear gradient based on the electricity production year. Specifically, 4.21 million GECs with a production year of 2024 traded at an average price of 1.29 yuan per certificate; 28.16 million GECs with a production year of 2025 averaged 4.05 yuan per certificate; and 7.48 million GECs with a production year of 2026 averaged 5.96 yuan per certificate.
