Cross-Border E-Commerce Sea Freight Exports from Shanghai Port Surpass Full-Year 2023 Value in First Five Months of 2024

Deep News06-07 15:51

In the initial five months of this year, Shanghai Customs supervised and cleared over 5.2 million parcels of cross-border e-commerce goods exported via sea freight, with a total declared value exceeding 5.8 billion yuan. This figure has already surpassed the total value recorded for the entire previous year.

On June 5th, at the sea freight cross-border e-commerce operations center at Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Zhendong Terminal, a shipment of handheld mini fans valued at 18,000 yuan was cleared by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Customs and loaded onto the vessel 'MOL Maui' for overseas shipment. Leveraging a customs-innovated "master bill of lading + consolidated container" supervision model, these fragmented e-commerce shipments were consolidated into the same container as general trade export goods, allowing for direct loading of fully packed containers onto vessels.

This model has not only unlocked the foreign trade potential of small, medium, and micro-sized enterprises but has also, through its efficient logistics, attracted cargo from major e-commerce platforms like Amazon to converge on the Shanghai port. It has propelled the port's sea freight cross-border e-commerce consolidation business into a major logistics channel, now handling over a thousand tons of goods daily across categories including apparel and accessories, daily necessities, and home furnishings and furniture.
